      Alberto and Francesco Meda

Alberto Meda is an engineer, designer and professor with three Golden Compass Awards under his belt. He was born in Tremezzina (Como) in 1945, and graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Milan Polytechnic University in 1969. He has been technical director of Kartell since 1973, and works as an industrial designer with all the leading companies within the sector. The keywords epitomising his design are useful, good-looking, simple and innovative; he harnesses technology lightly to solve complicated problems and to produce simple, natural shapes: there is no formal virtuosity; simply what is required to give shape and poetry to an object.

Francesco Meda was born in Milan in 1984 and graduated in Industrial Design from the European Design Institute in 2006. After an intense period working at the London studios of Sebastian Bergne and Ross Lovegrove, he returned to Italy where he collaborates with his father Alberto Meda, whilst equally indulging his passion for developing projects straddling art and design. In 2013 he started self-producing his work. For him, design is a matter of research, context and language.

He set up the Piuarch architectural practice, along with Germán Fuenmayor, Gino Garbellini and Monica Tricario, in Milan in 1996, with commissions ranging from designs for office and retail buildings and residential complexes, to cultural rehabilitation and urban regeneration projects, with a constant focus on the values of environmental quality and contextual relationship.

      Carlo Colombo

Carlo Colombo was born in Carimate in 1967, and graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1993, having already made contact with Giulio Cappellini in 1991, for whom he designed the first piece he presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan the following year. From then on he has worked with leading sectoral companies. His design projects, which initially focused on the design and planning of interiors, gradually extended to the construction sector in Italy and abroad. For Carlo Colombo being an architect means designing everything “from the spoon to the city”, as Ernesto Rogers said in the Athens Charter in 1952, taking careful heed of the history of the country in which one is working and of its context.
